Electrical Designer - Intermediate

Duties & Responsibilities:

The following outlines the general nature and level of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, and responsibilities required of the role. Consequently, this role may be asked to perform other duties, as required:

  • Assist a project team with the design of electrical systems for various building facilities, under supervision of a senior electrical designer/electrical engineer
  • Design will include power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), power generation, controls, life safety (fire alarm, public address, and nurse call), voice/data communications and basic security/CCTV systems and lighting calculations
  • Working knowledge of electrical design and supporting calculations which includes but is not limited to: Single line drawings, feeder sizing, panel and distribution board sizing, motor control schedules, fault and voltage drop calculations
  • Assist in checking drawings for dimensional and graphic accuracy, design suitability and adherence to drawing standards
  • Preparing drawings in AutoCAD / Revit, interfacing with clients, contractors and sales reps, preparing project documentation, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines. You may also have responsibility for conducting site visits/reviews and assisting with contract administration

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of professional experience
  • Past commercial, retail, office, residential and institutional project experience
  • Registered as C.E.T., P.Eng., A.Sc.T. or equivalent is required
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal electrical and building codes
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and comfortable sharing ideas
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

Office & Marketing Coordinator

We are seeking an Office & Marketing Coordinator to provide administrative, operational, marketing, business development and project-related support to our growing team in Edmonton. The successful candidate will manage the office administration duties, and will be involved in a wide variety of project administration and delivery, business development activities, and proposal development aspects. This position will evolve as the team and project needs develop; as such we are seeking a versatile, experienced, organized and motivated individual to be an integral member of the SMP team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Office Administration

  • Support the Edmonton office Partners and Leadership Team in day-to-day tasks such as office coordination and operational management, meetings and logistics, communications, project and financial support services to the team, prioritizing mail, preparing materials, filing, and setting up company activities, ordering supplies, processing invoices, and securing third-party services, as required in a growing office environment
  • Prioritize requests and ensure deadlines are met, assist the team with overall project scheduling
  • Format, proof read and coordinate the development of documents and correspondence
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries; oversee incoming communications, and, when appropriate, take action
  • Complete various office tasks as requested, including document reproduction, scanning and formatting; travel arrangements; processing of expenses and expenditure requests new hire onboarding and setup
  • Assist with basic-level IT needs

Marketing / Business Development Support

  • Coordinate business development activities while maintaining SMP brand continuity in the market
  • Track project and pursuit opportunities and assist the Partners and Leadership Team in identifying and pursuing potential projects
  • Coordinate the production and development of marketing and presentation materials to support provincial strategic initiatives
  • Produce relevant materials including the creation of graphics to visually communicate messaging in presentations and proposals which follow the company’s brand standards
  • Coordinate client presentations and help develop content
  • Maintain business development and pursuit content library, including resumes, project sheets and static content
  • Collaborate with and support the Director of Marketing and Business Development and her team
  • Coordinate conference and award opportunities including discovery, approvals, registration and the preparation of required materials
  • Manage client and contract databases ensuring accuracy of information and completeness of content

Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a marketing and/or administrative capacity in a busy office; consulting experience is an asset
  • Formal education in Marketing, Communications, Business, Journalism or Administration is preferred
  • Highly proficient technical skills with Microsoft Office suite; Experience with Adobe Creative suite is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task, while maintaining accuracy and ensuring quality
  • Ability to think and act independently and strategically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate across teams and across geographic areas
  • Knowledge and experience with document control systems, an understanding of engineering documentation flow processes and knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems is a definite asset
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven team environment
